CYCLISTS HUNT BIG GAME DURING BIKE WEEK

On Monday May 26 at 8:00 am cyclists will begin competing for prizes in Toronto`s first ever ULTIMATE BIG GAME HUNT. For the next two days they will be taking photos of motor vehicles parked in bike lanes in order to win prizes donated by many bicycleÐfriendly Toronto businesses.

The ULTIMATE BIG GAME HUNT is organized by Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists (ARC), a Toronto cycling group which believes that cyclists must stand up for each other. Cyclists deserve respect as road users, and bike lanes deserve respect as well. Blocking a bike lane with a motor vehicle is very dangerous for cyclists. They are forced to merge left with faster moving car traffic, often in hazardous locations near intersections and crosswalks. The life and limb of a cyclist is put at risk for the slightest convenience of a driver. "Toronto has had bike lanes for four years now," said Nancy Smith Lea, ARC member. "By now drivers should be used to them."

Hunters will register at two Bike Week events:

St. Stephen`s Courier Classic Bicycle Race
College Park
Saturday, May 24
3:00 pm

Mass Convergence Ride/Pancake Breakfast
Nathan Philips Square
Monday, May 26
8:00 am

The competition will end on Tuesday evening (May 27), when competitors are to drop off their completed rolls of film at the 3rd Annual Parking Meter Party, on Spadina at Queen St. between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. The photos will be judged by jury and prizes will be awarded at the Bikes Mean Business Gala on Thursday night.
